This storyline speaks of Jehovah Jireh, The Lord Will Provide.
During desert seasons of our lives, when our needs seem to go unmet, our dreams evaporate in the heat, and resentment and anger grow up from within us, The God of Provisions seems unattainable, distant, and even deaf to our pleas.
At times like these, it’s only our dogged stubbornness keeping us walking in the heat, trying to ignore the burning of our skin, and the parched reality of our body.
Thankfully, God’s mercies are new each morning, and so we just might find ourselves being grateful for little things: a breeze that cools us, fresh water in an unlikely place, and shade in a saguaro cactus at the height of the sun’s heat.
As these moments of gratitude take place, we scarcely notice the subtle changes occurring within us. Our steps lessen in their relentless plodding, our eyes begin to see the landscape around us, and we find beauty in what once appeared desolate and dead.
The desert transforms from a wasteland and a punishment, to a world of abundance, of beauty, of provisions everywhere - all of our needs met, in the most unexpected ways and from the most seemingly unlikely of places, people, and circumstances.
